ISO 22320:2018 A.5: Communication

What does A.5 require?

Communication creates a common and credible account of the events of an incident among organizations, the public including social media, and the media; organizations should understand how their own message, imagery and perception of reality balance with other sources, be as open as appropriate about their work, and communicate continuously before an incident (public education on hazards, risks and vulnerabilities, prevention, mitigation and preparedness, and warning messages that a disaster is imminent), during and directly after it (explaining and guiding immediate response actions to minimize impacts and maintain safety) and into recovery; and to establish communication the organization should make communication skills part of preparedness, begin using communication as early as the initial assessment, collaborate on communication throughout, listen to target groups and adapt, and ensure communication is rapid, open and accurate, each organization being responsible for the information it provides and for collaborating to coordinate information, avoid ambiguities and counteract rumours.
