ISO 22313:2020 - Guidance on Business Continuity Management Systems 8.3.4.5: Equipment and consumables

What does 8.3.4.5 require?

Guidance to list and keep up to date the core supplies needed for prioritized activities. Some equipment and machinery is hard to get, costly with slow approval, or slow to install and commission, and the chosen solutions may need to deal with that; a solution may suggest changing business practice, for example in stock control or building management. Options include keeping extra materials at another site; third-party agreements to supply at short notice; sending just-in-time deliveries to other sites; storing materials in warehouses or transport depots; shifting assembly to an alternative site where materials are kept; finding alternative or substitute materials; and identifying equipment and planning several options at each stage. Where activities rely on specialist materials, the organization identifies the suppliers prioritized activities depend on, sole suppliers above all, and supply continuity can be managed by adding suppliers, encouraging or obliging suppliers to run continuity processes, contracts or service agreements with suppliers, and finding dependable alternative suppliers; where activities move, it is confirmed that suppliers can deliver to the alternative site.
