Records must stay usable throughout the time they are held. Systems are designed for easy use, and measures to keep records useable include metadata about technical dependencies, extra copies or conversion, migration, a plan for continued access after a disaster and routine monitoring of storage conditions. Process metadata records enhancements such as conversion, formats are chosen with useability in mind, and reuse of content in a new transaction creates a new record with its own context and metadata.
