Classification connects a record to the business it evidences, at a fitting level such as function, activity or work process, through the business classification scheme, and connects single records to their groupings so business activity forms an unbroken trail. It may be applied to a single record or to a grouping of any size; a record can be reclassified over its life with the earlier classification kept; and indexing metadata such as subject, location or personal names may be added to help authorised users retrieve records.
