The report shall show the time of collection where patient care needs it, and the time the report was released shall be easy to obtain if it is not printed on the report. Examinations done by a referral laboratory shall be marked as such, naming the laboratory that performed them and passing on consultants' information without alteration. Where applicable, the report shall carry interpretation and comments on: whether the sample was of adequate quality and suitable; discrepancies between procedures or between locations (for example POCT); the risk of misreading results because of units used in a particular region; and trends in results or significant changes.
