If the user agrees, results may be reported in a shortened form, as long as the omitted details required by 7.4.1.6 and 7.4.1.7 remain easy to obtain. A final report shall always follow any preliminary report. Results given orally shall be recorded along with confirmation that they were communicated correctly, and a written report shall always follow. Results with serious consequences, such as genetic results or certain infectious disease results, should not be passed to the patient without a chance for counselling. Results with identifiers removed may be used for epidemiological or statistical purposes where privacy risks are controlled and legal requirements are satisfied.
