Clause 4: Quality management systems in projects – ISO 10006:2017

ISO 10006:2017 4.1.3: Phases and processes in projects

What does 4.1.3 require?

Phases and processes are two separate views of a project, each usable for planning and monitoring progress toward objectives and for assessing the associated risks. Phases cut the life cycle into manageable groups of activities, for example conception, development, realization or termination. Processes are those needed to manage the project and those needed to produce its product or service (ISO 21500 covers project management processes). Not every process described will exist in every project, some projects need further processes, and some may need to separate core from supporting processes; Annex A summarizes the processes that suit most projects. The document takes the process approach (clause 5.2.5), splits processes into project management processes and processes concerned with the product or service (design, production and the like), and groups them by affinity, all time-related processes together for instance. Clause 5 covers the strategic process that sets direction; clause 6 resource and personnel processes; clause 7 processes for interdependency, scope, time, cost, communication, procurement and risk; clause 8 measurement, analysis and continual improvement; each clause describes the process and gives quality guidance for it.
