Ireland Guidelines for the Responsible Use of AI in the Public Service (2025) 4.5a: Detect and mitigate unfair bias before and after deployment, with diverse perspectives and inclusive design

What does 4.5a require?

The body conducts due diligence to detect inherent bias both before and after deployment so that outcomes are neither unwarranted nor surprising. AI projects incorporate diverse perspectives, are inclusive by design and informed by the Design Principles for Government in Ireland. Because algorithmic bias can stem from training data that reflects systemic bias or does not represent the population served, particular care protects vulnerable groups, and the model itself is kept ethically balanced under proper oversight.
