A documented process decides which error-proofing methods are suitable. The chosen method is recorded in the process risk analysis and its test frequency in the control plan. Error-proofing devices are tested for failure, or for a simulated failure, and the results are kept as records. Challenge parts, where used, are identified, controlled, verified and, where feasible, calibrated. A reaction plan exists for failure of an error-proofing device.
