Dropped kerbs, properly designed and carrying visual and tactile warnings, are required at pedestrian crossings, where a private street's or access road's footpath ends, and wherever a kerb divides a footpath or ramp from an area used by vehicles. Each dropped kerb measures at least 1200 mm by 1200 mm, leaves 800 mm or more clear at the back of the footway, slopes no steeper than 1 in 10, steps down to the vehicle area by no more than 15 mm, and has one tactile warning strip 300 mm back from the vehicle area and another of nominal 600 mm width on the ramp. The Best Practice Section covers drainage and detailing at corners and narrow pavements.
