The study found that organizational climate (six drivers: flexibility, responsibility, standards, rewards, clarity, commitment) accounts for nearly a third of financial outcomes such as revenue growth, return on sales, profitability and efficiency, and that the leader's styles measurably move each driver; Primal Leadership attributes between half and 70 percent of employees' view of the climate to the leader. Four styles (authoritative, affiliative, democratic, coaching) consistently improve climate and results, two (coercive, pacesetting) usually harm it and have short-term uses. The best-performing leaders never lean on a single style: they have mastered four or more and switch among them fluidly, and a leader who lacks a style builds it by developing the EI competencies it rests on or by adding team members who have it.
