Goleman Emotional Intelligence Leadership Framework S1: Coercive style (Commanding in Primal Leadership)

What does S1 require?

The leader demands immediate compliance, in a phrase do what I say; it rests on the drive to achieve, initiative and self-control. It fits a crisis, a turnaround or a problem employee. In the study it had the most negative effect on climate overall (flexibility minus .28, responsibility minus .37, rewards minus .18, clarity minus .11, commitment minus .13): it erodes flexibility, responsibility and motivation, so it is used sparingly and in Primal Leadership is a dissonant style that calms people's fears in an emergency by setting a clear course.
