The leader sets high standards of performance and exemplifies them, in a phrase do as I do, now: fixated on improving speed and quality, expecting the same of everyone, taking over when people fall short; it rests on conscientiousness, drive to achieve and initiative. It fits a team that is capable and highly motivated, when fast results are needed. Its climate effect is often negative (flexibility minus .07, standards minus .27, rewards minus .29, clarity minus .28, commitment minus .20): people feel overwhelmed by the demands, guess at what the leader wants, lose trust and initiative, and the leader's takeover leaves no development; in Primal Leadership it is a dissonant style that fails because it is poorly executed.
