The European Parking Card replaces every disability parking card that was issued under Council Recommendation 98/376/EC, whether nationally, regionally or locally, when the beneficiary asks for the European card and at the latest five years after the directive's entry into force; until then a Member State may let parking cards issued under the Recommendation before the 42-month application date keep the same effect in its territory as the European card.
