EN 50126 / EN 50128 / EN 50129 - Railway Applications RAMS 50129:5.1: Introduction: the conditions for safety acceptance

A safety-related electronic system, subsystem or equipment is accepted as sufficiently safe for the use intended only when three conditions are met at the levels of equipment, subsystem and system: the quality management process (5.2) and the safety management process (5.3) have been applied throughout the life cycle, and the functional and technical safety of the design is evidenced (7.2); the documentary evidence for all three is presented in the structured safety justification, the safety case (clause 7), which with the safety assessment report is the basis for acceptance (clause 8). The conditions are mandatory for SIL 1 to 4, with the depth of evidence and supporting documentation proportionate to the SIL; basic integrity functions are outside the safety conditions, though the hazard analysis and risk assessment of EN 50126-2 that establish the level are always required.
