A lawyer who gives short-term limited help through a nonprofit or court-sponsored program, where neither side expects ongoing representation, is caught by Rules 1.7 and 1.9(a) only when the lawyer actually knows of a conflict, and by Rule 1.10 only when the lawyer knows a colleague in the firm is disqualified. The client's informed consent to the limited scope must be obtained; if a short-term engagement would not be reasonable, the lawyer may still advise but must point the client to further counsel. Every other rule, confidentiality included, applies as usual.
