BREEAM - Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method Hea 02: Hea 02 Indoor air quality

To secure a healthy internal environment: a prerequisite that no materials containing asbestos are specified or used (the minimum standard at every rating); one credit for an indoor air quality plan covering removal, dilution and control of contaminant sources, pre-occupancy flush-out, third-party testing and in-use maintenance; one credit for ventilation providing fresh air to the national best-practice standard with intakes and exhausts located to avoid recirculation and pollution, with carbon dioxide or air-quality sensors where relevant; credits for emission-limited products (paints, flooring, ceilings, insulation, adhesives and sealants meeting the recognised VOC and formaldehyde standards) and for post-construction formaldehyde and TVOC measurement within limits; and one credit for adaptability through the potential for natural ventilation of occupied spaces.
