Goods are segregated when the two sets of goods ride on different vehicles of the same combination, on different wagons or load platforms, or with one of them in a closed rigid-sided freight container (or, by rail in open or curtain-sided units on one platform, at least 6 m apart horizontally), subject to the special provisions of 9.2.3 and the rail provisions of 9.2.4. Alternatively the dangerous goods may be packed in a packaging for segregation approved by a competent authority, with three levels of containment including a leakproof intermediate packaging, tested to packing group I standard and marked Approved Packaging for Segregation; for packing group I goods the intermediate packaging must be metal or rigid plastics, any absorbent sits inside it, and the mark adds PGI.
