Dangerous goods and goods incompatible with them may not share a road vehicle or a train unless they are segregated as Chapter 9.2 requires or the Code otherwise allows them to travel together. The segregation rules bite on placard loads, on goods that Table 9.1 declares incompatible in any quantity, and on overpacks, large packagings and segregation devices, which may never hold incompatible goods except limited quantities under 3.4.6; a cargo transport unit may not hold incompatible goods unless they are segregated under 9.2.2. Incompatibility is determined from classification under 9.1.2 and the specific examples in 9.1.3, applying the most stringent provision whenever goods are stowed together and the subsidiary hazard's segregation where it is stricter.
