Placarding of cargo transport units and placardable units (Chapter 5.3) – Australian Dangerous Goods Code Edition 7.8 (Consignor and Transport Duties)

Australian Dangerous Goods Code Edition 7.8 (Consignor and Transport Duties) 5.3.1.1.1: Placard cargo transport units that carry a placard load, and every bulk container and placardable unit

What does 5.3.1.1.1 require?

Placards go on the outside of a cargo transport unit that contains a placard load determined from Table 5.3, and on every bulk container and placardable unit (a receptacle over 500 kg or litres capacity). Table 5.3.1 sets the thresholds for fully regulated goods: any placardable unit; an aggregate of 250 kg or litres where Division 2.1 (other than aerosols), Division 2.3 or packing group I goods are present; any quantity of Division 6.2 Category A; 10 kg or litres of other Division 6.2; and otherwise an aggregate of 1,000 kg or litres. Table 5.3.2 adds thresholds for limited quantity and domestic consumable goods: 2,000 kg or litres of one UN number from one place of consignment, or more than 8 tonnes gross. Mixed loads below both thresholds are combined using the stated percentages of the limited quantity gross mass. A fumigated unit carrying nothing else is not a placard load.
