A person served with a written notice by the regulator, where the regulator reasonably believes the person can give information, documents or evidence about a possible contravention or that will help it monitor or enforce compliance, does not without reasonable excuse refuse or fail to comply: giving the information in writing signed by the person (or a competent officer of a body corporate) within the time and manner specified, producing the documents, or appearing before the appointed person to give evidence and produce documents. Legal professional privilege is preserved (s 269) and self-incrimination is dealt with by s 172.
