In meeting the general principles the manufacturer must pay particular attention to the chemical and physical properties of materials and to their compatibility with tissues, cells, body fluids and specimens, having regard to intended purpose. Risks from contaminants and residues to anyone handling the device and to patients must be minimised, with regard to how long and how often tissue is exposed. The device must be safe with any material, substance or gas it may contact in normal use or routine procedures, and a device that delivers medicine must suit the conditions of that medicine and let it work as intended.
