Australia Therapeutic Goods (Medical Devices) Regulations 2002 sch1-12.2-12.4: Essential principles 12.2 to 12.4: where patient safety depends on power, provide a means to check an internal supply and an alarm for external power failure, and fit clinical-parameter monitors with alarms for dangerous patient states

What does sch1-12.2-12.4 require?

If a patient's safety will depend on the device's internal power supply, the device must have a way to show the state of that supply. If it will depend on an external power supply, the device must have an alarm that signals a power failure. A device meant to monitor one or more clinical parameters must have a suitable alarm system to warn the user of a situation that could lead to the patient's death or severe deterioration.
