After-hours Services Standard 1 Access to care and continuity with the regular practice – Australia RACGP Standards for After-hours and Medical Deputising Services (5th edition)

Australia RACGP Standards for After-hours and Medical Deputising Services (5th edition) AHS1.4: Home and other visits: patients can obtain visits at home, in residential aged care or elsewhere when a visit is safe and clinically reasonable, with clear criteria and alternatives when a visit is not appropriate

What does AHS1.4 require?

Visits are the core of a deputising service but not every request warrants one. The service has a policy setting out when a home or other visit is appropriate, how requests are triaged, how the safety of the location is assessed, what is offered when a visit is not safe or reasonable, such as clinic attendance, telehealth or emergency services, and the area it covers. The policy is explained to patients and to the practices served.
