Australia Policy for the Responsible Use of AI in Government (Version 2.0) 2.4: Designate an accountable use case owner for every in-scope AI use case within twelve months

Within twelve months of the policy taking effect, that is by 15 December 2026, each agency must have designated an accountable use case owner for every in-scope AI use case, following the Standard for accountability, which sets the owner's responsibilities. The accountable officials must maintain a register of these owners. The owner is the named person answerable for a particular use case's assessment, risk treatments, monitoring and review, as distinct from the accountable official who answers for the policy across the agency. New in-scope use cases after the deadline need an owner from the design stage.
