Australia Policy for the Responsible Use of AI in Government (Version 2.0) 2.2: Develop and communicate a strategic position on AI adoption within six months

Within six months of the policy taking effect, that is by 15 June 2026, each agency must have developed a strategic position on AI adoption that emphasises how the agency will identify and embrace AI opportunities. The position must be communicated so that staff have clear direction on AI adoption. The form is flexible: a standalone AI strategy, an addition to an existing strategy, or other material, chosen in line with the agency's current and anticipated use of AI. The requirement is new in version 2.0 and pairs with the operationalisation approach in the preparedness section: one sets direction, the other sets the process.
