A redundant employee must receive redundancy or severance pay for all continuous service: service of 1 year but under 2 earns 2.4 weeks' pay, plus 1.75 hours' pay for each completed week beyond the first year, capped at 4.8 weeks; service of 2 years but under 3 earns 4.8 weeks, plus 1.6 hours for each completed week beyond 2 years, capped at 7 weeks; service of 3 years but under 4 earns 7 weeks, plus 0.73 hours for each completed week beyond 3 years, capped at 8 weeks; 4 years or more earns 8 weeks. Where service is under 12 months, the payment is 1.75 hours for each week served, but only if the employee did not bring about the termination. A week's pay is the all-purpose rate at termination. The entitlement passes to the estate if the employee dies. Casual service does not count. Apprenticeship service counts only if the employee completes the apprenticeship and stays a further 12 months.
