Australia OGTR Guidelines for Certification of a PC2 Large Scale Facility (Version 3.1) C67: Incidents reported to the Regulator

What does C67 require?

The Regulator must be told of each of these incidents as soon as reasonably practicable: (a) a critical closed system defect while the facility is operating (the guideline explains this means any defect able to affect GMO containment); (b) GMOs released from the facility, or a spill outside it, including where an LWTS failure caused it; (c) a major release of GMOs out of primary containment, a large spill inside the facility for example; and (d) anyone possibly exposed to GMOs that are human pathogens in Risk Group 2. The guideline explains that, here, as soon as reasonably practicable means the OGTR should receive a report, on the Incident Reporting Form from its website, within one or two business days of the incident, so the OGTR can assess the risk and attend if needed, and that in an emergency, such as a known or suspected escape, the OGTR can be called free on 1800 181 030 at any hour.
