Standard 5: Comprehensive Care – Australia National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards Second Edition

Australia National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards Second Edition 5.01-5.06: Governance, quality improvement and consumer partnership systems are applied to comprehensive care; systems support clinicians to develop, document and communicate care plans, provide care in the right setting, refer specialist needs promptly and identify the accountable clinician; teamwork and roles are defined; and clinicians collaborate to plan and deliver care

What does 5.01-5.06 require?

Comprehensive care is governed through the clinical governance, improvement and consumer partnership systems. Organisational systems must help clinicians write, record and share comprehensive care plans, deliver care in the setting that best fits clinical need, refer specialist needs promptly, and make clear at every moment which clinician carries overall accountability for each patient. Teamwork across disciplines must be supported with each clinician's role defined, and clinicians must plan and deliver care together.
