Australia National Pathology Standards (First Edition 2027)
Standard 4: Pathology laboratory supervision – Australia National Pathology Standards (First Edition 2027)

Australia National Pathology Standards (First Edition 2027) 4.01: GX laboratory designated person: a full-time pathologist appointee who supervises only within scope, delegates supervision of tests outside their scope to pathologists with the relevant scope at GX, GY and B laboratories in the network, and may delegate supervision of laboratory operations and the preanalytical and analytical phases to scientists and clinical scientists with an appropriate scope

What does 4.01 require?

A GX laboratory is led by a designated person who is a pathologist employed full time. That pathologist supervises only tests inside their own scope; for tests outside it, supervision passes to another pathologist with the right scope at a GX, GY or B laboratory in the network; and oversight of day-to-day operations and of the pre-analytical and analytical work can be delegated to scientists and clinical scientists whose scope fits.

What else in your programme already covers this

This control maps to 2 controls across 2 other frameworks. If you already hold one of them, the evidence you collected for it is the starting point here rather than new work.

  • 17-GX Category GX (General): a laboratory or co-located laboratories under the full-time onsite direction and control of a pathologist designated person, with each group of pathology testing under the full-time supervision of a pathologist with the relevant scope of practice, or a recognised national blood service under a pathologist's full-time direction, control and supervision

Every mapping shown was judged rather than inferred from wording similarity, and the ones that failed review are published too. See the coverage reports and what was rejected.
