Standard 4: Pathology laboratory supervision – Australia National Pathology Standards (First Edition 2027)

Australia National Pathology Standards (First Edition 2027) 4.07: GY and B laboratories receive effective virtual supervision through at least monthly meetings with time for safety, quality and operational performance, annual visits by skilled and qualified workforce members delegated by the designated person to review operations, onsite managers integrated into the network management structure, and onsite managers who spend at least two full-time equivalent days a year in supervised training or professional development in another laboratory

What does 4.07 require?

Remote oversight of GY and B laboratories is made real in four ways: a virtual supervision meeting at least once a month, long enough to cover safety, quality and operational performance; a yearly site review by suitably skilled and qualified staff delegated by the designated person; onsite managers who are part of the network's management line; and, outside point of care B sites, onsite managers who each year put in at least two full-time-equivalent days of supervised training or professional development somewhere other than their own laboratory, routine shifts elsewhere not counting.
