Standard 2: Safety and quality systems – Australia National Pathology Standards (First Edition 2027)

Australia National Pathology Standards (First Edition 2027) 2.10: Feedback and complaints management: document feedback and complaints from requesters, patients, families and carers, inform the designated person, escalate and correct where communications suggest adverse clinical impact, respond in a timely way and tell complainants the outcome, provide information on the healthcare complaints authority, record timeliness and improvements, and analyse feedback to improve safety and quality

What does 2.10 require?

Whatever requesters, patients or their families and carers say about the service, whether praise, concern or complaint, is logged and the designated person hears of it. Any exchange hinting that a patient may have been harmed is escalated, examined and put right. Complaints are answered promptly, the complainant learns the outcome, and patients and families are pointed to the health complaints commissioner for their state or territory. Response times, the evaluation made and the improvements that followed are recorded, and the whole body of feedback and complaint handling is mined for lessons about safety and quality.

What else in your programme already covers this

This control maps to 1 controls across 1 other frameworks. If you already hold one of them, the evidence you collected for it is the starting point here rather than new work.

  • 1.13-1.14 Feedback from patients, carers, families and the workforce is sought regularly and used to improve, and an organisation-wide complaints management system encourages complaints, involves workforce and consumers in review, resolves them promptly, feeds back analyses and informs improvement and the risk register

Every mapping shown was judged rather than inferred from wording similarity, and the ones that failed review are published too. See the coverage reports and what was rejected.
