Where a licensee or its representative is a mortgage broker that gave credit assistance on a residential mortgage, and there are reasonable grounds to believe a significant core obligation breach, gross negligence or serious fraud occurred that has caused loss the consumer can recover, the licensee must take reasonable steps to notify the consumer in writing within 30 days, start an investigation within 30 days that identifies the conduct and quantifies the loss, complete it as soon as reasonably practicable, tell the consumer the outcome within 10 days, and pay the compensation the outcome requires.
