On-site wastewater management systems must protect public health by minimising the risks from discharge of treated wastewater or composting toilet end product, preventing foul air entering buildings and avoiding contamination of drinking water supplies, and must protect the environment by avoiding pollution of surface and ground water, keeping soil productivity maintained or improved and avoiding contamination of soils, ground water and waterways. Deemed-to-Satisfy routes: septic tanks to AS/NZS 1546.1 (C3D2), waterless composting toilets to AS/NZS 1546.2 (C3D3), secondary treatment systems (C3D4), grey water treatment to AS/NZS 1546.4 (C3D5), land application systems (C3D6) and common effluent drainage under AS/NZS 3500.2 (C3D7).
