Containers producing or storing heated water must relieve excess pressure and avoid flash steam by keeping pressure within the lesser of the maximum rated working pressure and 1400 kPa (with a tolerance of 5 per cent or 14 kPa, whichever is greater) and limiting water temperature to 99 degrees Celsius, or by other means giving equal safety. Deemed-to-Satisfy B2D7 requires a temperature and pressure relief device to AS/NZS 3500.4. Verification Method B2V1 checks storage by requiring all water to be held at a temperature for a minimum exposure period within seven days: at least 70 degrees for 1 second, 66 degrees for 2 minutes or 60 degrees for 32 minutes.
