Water velocity in cold water pipework must not exceed 3 metres per second for at least 99 per cent of the time water is needed during the peak hour, and velocity in valves and devices must allow fixtures and appliances to work correctly. Verification Method B1V1 sizes pipework for a Class 2 or 3 building against a minimum diameter worked out from design flow. Deemed-to-Satisfy is installation to AS/NZS 3500.1 (B1D3). The limit is an upper figure, so pipe and fitting makers' own velocity limits also need checking.
