A private bushfire shelter (Class 10c) must keep conditions survivable for the people inside it through a design bushfire whose yearly chance of being exceeded is 1 in 200 or less, suited to: its location relative to vegetation, adjacent buildings and structures, allotment boundaries and other combustibles; its occupancy; the bushfire intensity at the site's bushfire attack level; fire intensity from adjacent buildings, boundaries and combustibles; ready access from the dwelling and egress after the fire; tenability for the estimated maximum occupancy period; smoke, heat and toxic gases from its own materials; structural and fire loads including topography, distance to hazards, fire size, wind and debris such as falling tree limbs; external signage showing its location; internal signage showing capacity and maximum occupancy period; occupants' awareness of outside conditions; and essential maintenance. There are no Deemed-to-Satisfy Provisions: H7P6 must be met by a Performance Solution (the ABCB Performance Standard for Private Bushfire Shelters gives guidance).
