A swimming pool with a water depth over 300 mm must have a barrier that is continuous for the full extent of the hazard, strong and rigid enough to withstand the foreseeable impact of people, restricts young children's access to the pool and its immediate surrounds, and has gates and doors with latches not readily operated by young children that close and latch automatically. Deemed-to-Satisfy route: H7D2(1), safety barriers to AS 1926.1 and AS 1926.2 for a pool associated with a Class 1 building. New South Wales substitutes NSW H7P1 and H7D2 (read with the Swimming Pools Act 1992 and Swimming Pools Regulation 2018, with a spa pool alternative under clause 9 of that Regulation); Queensland and the Northern Territory leave H7P1 and H7D2(1) blank because pool barriers are regulated under the Building Act 1975 (Qld) and the Swimming Pool Safety Act (NT); South Australia adds CPR signage (see the State variation leaf).
