Australia Model Code of Practice: Work Health and Safety Consultation, Cooperation and Coordination
Section 1: Introduction and duty holders – Australia Model Code of Practice: Work Health and Safety Consultation, Cooperation and Coordination

Australia Model Code of Practice: Work Health and Safety Consultation, Cooperation and Coordination 1.2: 1.2 Treat consultation as a legal requirement and a core part of risk management

Consultation is a legal requirement and essential to managing risks, physical and psychosocial. A safe workplace is more easily achieved when everyone communicates to identify hazards, raise concerns and find solutions, including cooperation between duty holders, those who manage or control the work and those who do it. Drawing on workers' knowledge produces better decisions, greater awareness and commitment, and trust. Where responsibility is shared, consultation addresses gaps that arise when duty holders do not understand how their activities add to others' risk, assume someone else is dealing with it, or when the person acting is not best placed to do so.
