Australia Model Code of Practice: Work Health and Safety Consultation, Cooperation and Coordination
Section 1: Introduction and duty holders – Australia Model Code of Practice: Work Health and Safety Consultation, Cooperation and Coordination

Australia Model Code of Practice: Work Health and Safety Consultation, Cooperation and Coordination 1.1b: 1.1 PCBUs must consult, cooperate and coordinate with other duty holders

A PCBU must, so far as is reasonably practicable, consult, cooperate and coordinate activities with all other persons who have a work health or safety duty for the same matter (WHS Act s 46). Several businesses may be responsible for the same matter because they share a workplace or activity, and each should exchange information about who is doing what and work together so risks are eliminated or minimised. PCBUs have duties when they engage or direct workers, put others at risk, manage or control a workplace, fixtures or plant, design, manufacture, import or supply plant, substances or structures, or install, construct or commission them. Where a project has a principal contractor it should name the other PCBUs it shares duties with and set out the ways they will consult and coordinate in the WHS management plan.
