Australia Model Code of Practice: Preparation of Safety Data Sheets for Hazardous Chemicals s12: Section 12: give ecotoxicity, persistence and degradability, bioaccumulation, soil mobility and other environmental effects for each ingredient where available, with test conditions

What does s12 require?

Section 12 should give environmental hazard information that helps with spills and waste treatment, stating species, media, units, test duration and conditions, and noting where data are unavailable, for each ingredient where available. It should include acute and chronic aquatic toxicity data for fish, crustaceans, algae and water plants and other organisms where known (soil organisms, birds, bees, plants), any effect on sewage treatment micro-organisms; persistence and degradability with whether half-lives refer to mineralisation or primary degradation; bioaccumulation potential with Kow and BCF where available; mobility in soil (Koc, leaching), preferring real data over models; and other effects such as ozone depletion, photochemical ozone creation, endocrine disruption and global warming potential.
