Section 5: Plant registration – Australia Model Code of Practice: Managing the Risks of Plant in the Workplace

Australia Model Code of Practice: Managing the Risks of Plant in the Workplace 5.2a: 5.2 Register each registrable item of plant and mark it

A person must not use a registrable item of plant if it has not been registered, and a PCBU must not direct or allow a worker to use one. To register an item it must be inspected and a competent person must state it is safe to operate; a competent person has engineering qualifications relevant to the plant or knowledge of the relevant technical standards. If design registration was also required, the design registration number is included with the application. Item registration lasts five years from the day granted. The regulator issues a registration document listing the holder, any business name, number and date of effect, which the holder must keep and make available for inspection and replace promptly if lost, stolen or destroyed. The regulator may impose conditions about use, maintenance, record keeping or giving information. The holder must mark the registration number on the item, and for assembled plant such as a tower crane on components readily visible when assembled.
