Section 5: Plant registration – Australia Model Code of Practice: Managing the Risks of Plant in the Workplace

Australia Model Code of Practice: Managing the Risks of Plant in the Workplace 5.1a: 5.1 Register the plant design before supply and verify it

A person with management or control of plant must not direct or allow a worker to use registrable plant that has not been registered. A plant design must be registered if it has not already been, and a design is verified by an eligible design verifier who gives a statement that it was produced in accordance with published technical standards or engineering principles specified by the designer. A suitable verifier has relevant engineering qualifications, knowledge of the standards, skills to verify independently, or certification by a body accredited by the Joint Accreditation System of Australia and New Zealand or equivalent, for example a registered professional engineer or Chartered Professional Engineer. The regulator issues a plant design registration number, which the holder must give to the manufacturer, importer or supplier, who must pass it to the person with management or control of the plant; that person must keep the number readily accessible near the plant, such as permanently marked on it.
