Australia Model Code of Practice Managing the Risks of Biological Hazards at Work
Chapter 7 Implementing control measures: testing, policies, training and maintenance – Australia Model Code of Practice Managing the Risks of Biological Hazards at Work

Australia Model Code of Practice Managing the Risks of Biological Hazards at Work 7.4: Monitor and maintain controls so they remain fit for purpose, suited to the work and correctly set up and used, establishing at implementation what maintenance each control needs and a schedule of routine checks based on the control, the risk and manufacturer instructions, with expert maintenance where needed such as HVAC servicing, water treatment, inspection and cleaning

What does 7.4 require?

Controls need regular monitoring and maintenance to stay effective, remaining fit for purpose, suitable for the nature and duration of the work and set up and used correctly, which links back to the start of the cycle and supports continuous improvement. When implementing a control the PCBU should work out what maintenance it will need and set a schedule of routine checks and maintenance, considering the nature of the control, the risk it addresses and the manufacturer's instructions for any equipment; some controls need a person with appropriate training and expertise, for example a technician to maintain, treat the water in, inspect and clean an HVAC system so that it stays in good condition and does not introduce mould spores or Legionella.
