Where single or extension ladders are used for entry and exit, check there is a firm, stable, unobstructed platform to step onto, the ladder is securely fixed, it extends at least 1 metre above the step-off point, and fall protection is provided at the step-off point. In stairwells, consider installing the permanent staircase as early as possible. AS/NZS 1892 and the manufacturer's recommendations apply.
