Extension or single ladders should be used only for access or for short, light work that can be done safely from the ladder. Ladders should be chosen for the duration of the work, the surroundings and the weather; step platforms with a small work platform and partial handrail give better protection than traditional step or single ladders. Ladders should be industrial, with a load rating of at least 120 kg; domestic or homemade ladders should not be used for industrial work or on construction sites.
