Fall control measures must be maintained so they remain fit for purpose, suitable for the nature and duration of the work, and installed, set up and used correctly (WHS Regulations r 37). The PCBU should write procedures for correctly installing, using and maintaining them, with a planned inspection and maintenance program stating the equipment inspected and its unique identification, the frequency and type of inspection (pre-use checks and detailed inspections), what to do with defective equipment, how inspections are recorded, training of users, and how the program itself is monitored. The manufacturer or supplier should be consulted for product-specific requirements, and equipment showing excessive wear or other defects must be withdrawn from use.
