Australia Model Code of Practice: Managing Risks of Hazardous Chemicals in the Workplace 4.3b: 4.3 Maintain and test storage and handling systems (r 363)

The PCBU must ensure so far as reasonably practicable that a system for using, handling or storing hazardous chemicals is used only for its designed purpose and is operated, tested, maintained, installed, repaired and decommissioned having regard to safety. Systems include reaction vessels, transfer lines, pumps, spill bunding, storage tanks and filters. Planned maintenance programs should run at regular intervals consistent with manufacturer instructions or a competent person, and where that is not reasonably practicable inspection and maintenance should be at least annual. Examples: checking glass linings in reaction vessels for cracks, bursting discs and pressure relief systems on pressure vessels, bund walls for cracks and wear, and tanks, pipework and gas fittings for corrosion. If integrity is in doubt repair or replacement should happen as soon as practicable and before the next use.
