Australia Model Code of Practice: Managing Risks of Hazardous Chemicals in the Workplace 4.2b: 4.2 Reduce vapour emissions and keep chemicals away from heat

Vapour accumulation can create a hazardous area. Emissions during transfer can be reduced by enclosed transfer systems and vapour recovery connections, keeping lids open only as long as needed, minimising exposed surface area, avoiding splash filling, keeping transferred liquids cool and providing extraction ventilation at each vapour source. Heating raises the vapour pressure of flammable and combustible materials, so containers should be kept away from heaters and other heat sources, which can also deteriorate packaging and increase container failure risk.
