Australia Model Code of Practice: Managing Risks of Hazardous Chemicals in the Workplace
Section 4: Controlling risks – Australia Model Code of Practice: Managing Risks of Hazardous Chemicals in the Workplace

Australia Model Code of Practice: Managing Risks of Hazardous Chemicals in the Workplace 4.3a: 4.3 Maintain control measures so they stay effective (r 37)

The PCBU must ensure implemented controls remain effective, which includes checking they are fit for purpose, suitable for the nature and duration of the work and installed and used correctly. Maintenance may include regular inspections, supervision of correct use, preventative maintenance and testing programs for chemical storage and handling systems and periodic air monitoring to confirm engineering and administrative controls still work. Procedures should let workers report defective controls as soon as they are found so repair is prompt.
